Introduction:

Dr Fahd Aziz Rana (UK Trained Gastroenterologist) Consultant Gastroenterologist, Interventional Endoscopist and Hepatologist based at Omar Hospital and Cardiac center, Lahore.

H e graduated from Allama Iqbal Medical College in 2003 and subsequently moved to the UK where he completed his post-graduate Medical and Gastroenterology training. This led to the attainment of Membership of Royal College of Physicians for both General Medicine (MRCP) and Gastroenterology (MRCP Gastroenterology). Dr Rana has been awarded Completion Certificate of Specialist Training (CCT) by the General Medical Council (UK) for successfully completing his training programme in general medicine and gastroenterology. He also holds the Fellowship for the European board of gastroenterology and hepatology (FEBGH).
Dr Rana trained in gastroenterology and hepatology in the North East region of England including in a tertiary centre where he gained valuable expertise in managing patients with complex nutritional needs as well as under taking a dedicated placement in hepatology, managing complex liver conditions including transplant hepatology.
Subsequently, he completed an Advanced Pancreatobiliary Fellowshipat the prestigious St. James’s University Hospital in Leeds which is one of the busiest state-of-the-art Interventional Endoscopy units in the UK. He received focussed training in Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) including Cholangioscopy and Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) along with dedicated pancreatobiliary clinics managing complex conditions related to the pancreas and hepatobiliary system.

During his career in the UK, Dr Rana has published several papers in peer-reviewed journals covering conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, interventional endoscopy, hepatocellular carcinoma and ERCP. He was also the co-author of the first online ERCP course launched from the platform of the prestigious United European Gastroenterology (UEG). Dr Rana has also made several oral and poster presentations at national and international meetings.
Dr Rana is an advanced interventional endoscopist.He undertakes all endoscopic procedures including gastroscopy, sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy. These include interventions such as oesophageal stenting, variceal band ligation, PEG insertion, polyp removal and colonic stenting to name a few. He also performs endoscopic investigations of the liver called ERCP including cholangioscopy and Endoscopic ultrasound. These procedures enable very close examination and investigation of the liver, gallbladder and bile ducts.
Dr Rana is dedicated to providing compassionate, patient-focused and sincere care to his patients. He strives to be personable and empathetic to the concerns of his patients and lays great emphasis on a multidisciplinary approach with the help of surgical and radiology colleagues, junior doctors and nurses in delivering the best possible care to his patients.
